INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY: 'LEADERS OF TOMORROW' IS A SCAM!

"Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life." - Samuel Ullman

Retrospectively, I was not born yet when President Buhari (Then General) was a military head of state, I was still somewhere unknown. Now that I'm of age, being an undergraduate, Buhari is still my head is state. I hate gerontocracy with passion, even if it is features in one or two political office(s) out of many. Leadership is not based on age, it is a concept distanced from age.

The big scam is that the youths are referred to as leaders of tomorrow. Leadership takes place in the present, it is about living in the present and preparing for the future, not about dedicating both the latter and former to the future. And accepting the titular reference as leaders of tomorrow is an indication that we will never lead, tomorrow never comes! We have been sidelined heavily, and we have been kowtowing, some elders would say, "Omode nie." We have been caged under the notion of leaders of tomorrow.

I am waiting, but not patiently, for the NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN BILL to be signed into law. We must give in a fight and take over politically. Though leadership is not about occupying political positions alone, but having a greater level of influence comes politically.

It is time to sentence the notion of "Leaders of Tomorrow" to a combination of death by firing squad and hanging, and if possible, sentence the dead 'body' to 'life' imprisonment. Here is today, let us take control of it.

Happy International Youth Day.
